Custom Itinerary Services for Portugal
William Wilde has lived in Portugal for over three years, during which time he has travelled its various regions and explored its many history and archaeology sites first hand. From the remains of prehistoric settlements to the Iron Age, from medieval history to the remnants of the Portuguese Empire and beyond. As a researcher and writer for Archaeology Travel, he specialises in producing content about Portugal, as well as offering bespoke itinerary services to our readers. Living in Lisbon he as helped many visitors to the city with customised itineraries, and even acting as a tour guide on occasions. These include visiting Lisbon’s best museums, days out to castles and palaces, and even excursions further afield. By car or public transport, Portugal is well connected to its heritage; in just a few hours you can be in a new region, with different history and archaeology.
Bespoke Itineraries
After establishing myself as a writer on the site, I’ve begun an itinerary creation service which is tailored to each visitor’s interests and requirements. Many people want to explore Portugal’s fascinating history and archaeology but don’t have the time to create their own itinerary, or want to make sure they don’t miss out on the best sites. Creating a bespoke itinerary starts with a 30-minute video call, getting a good sense of your particular interests and needs. This can include the type of sites you’d like to visit, particular eras of archaeology that interest you, and wider requirements like mobility, transport, and other needs. Itineraries are tailored to the time of year, even including specific days of the week, taking into account seasonal openings and any weather limitations. Knowing what you’re looking for, I can suggest where to stay and eat, the best routes to sites, and how to make the most of the time you have. This is presented as a PDF and map, giving an easy-to-use overview of your suggested itinerary, and details on how to book tickets (including links), opening times, travel considerations, and personal recommendations on the best places to stay and eat on your trip.

What Qualifies Me
Born in the UK, I have family connections in Portugal and have been visiting since I was a young child. I later studied in Lisbon during university, then moved here and lived in Portugal for over three years. During this time, I travelled extensively, with a particular focus on exploring Portugal’s fascinating archaeology. I developed a deep interest in the multi-layered cultural and historical shifts in the country over time, and an appreciation of which of Portugal’s sites are most worth visiting. My academic background includes Portuguese language, history, and cultural studies, as well as a bioarchaeology project exploring the connection between ancient people and their environments. I have experience as a professional travel writer, with recommendations written in a practical, easy-to-understand format. I’ve written guides on full tours of Portugal by public transport, as well as the best way to see the sites of Sintra in the Lisbon region. Besides writing for Archaeology Travel, I also have a personal bioarchaeology blog, Biology Origins. My writing has been informed by my academic work and professional writing, as well as first-hand experience from living in Portugal.
