Emilia–Romagna is one of the richest areas of Europe, and is home to the University of Bologna – one of the oldest universities in the world. Geographically the region is varied, ranging from the Apeninne mountains to coastal plains with many lagoons. The Po River delta and the Renaissance city of Ferrara were added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1999. The Provinces in Emilia-Romagna are: Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì-Cesena, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Ravenna, Reggio Emilia and Rimini.
