Italy’s most north-east region, the landscapes of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region changes from sandy beaches along the Adriatic coast in the south to forests and mountain lakes of the Alps in the north. Aquileia, a largely unexcavated early Roman city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most intact examples of an early Roman city in the Mediterranean. The Provinces in Friuli-Venezia Giulia are: Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste and Udine.
