Each year Archaeology Scotland, one of the leading centres for community archaeology in Scotland, coordinates Scottish Archaeology Month. In collaboration with site custodians throughout the highlands and islands of Scotland, this programme of free events offers archaeology enthusiasts a range of activities in September covering all periods of the past, for all ages. The events are varied, and greatly depend on where they are being hosted, but include special exhibitions, lectures, workshops, tours and a number of hands on activities as well.

There is a detailed programme on the Archaeology Scotland website, that is kept up to date. Click on the link, and in a new window/tab you will see a map of the regions of Scotland, then click on the region you want to find events in and you will be taken to a page that lists the archaeological activities in that area.

Archaeology in Scotland Guidebook

For a thorough and informative guidebook to the archaeology of Scotland, I strongly recommend Scotland: an Oxford Archaeological Guide by Anna Richie and Graham Ritchie, available on both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.
