Given our mission to encourage sustainable travel, we are mindful of the carbon emissions that result from people using our website.
For this reason we have chosen a registered green hosting company, Guru Cloud Hosting. In addition to this and to celebrate your membership with us, we pledge to plant a tree on your behalf when you choose the Newsletter Sign-up option.
We have partnered with Ripple Africa, who have been working in Malawi for 20 years. To date they have supported communities to plant 21 million trees, and they work with 1,800 Forest Conservation Committee members to protect 340 square kilometres of forest. The protection of these existing trees is just as important as the need to plant new trees. In their project, for every tree planted three existing trees are protected.
Choose Your Membership
Archaeology Travel is more than a collection of articles with useful information. Ours is a truly unique travel website allowing you to benefit from the experience of others and create individualised itineraries that suit your interests.
The website will always remain free for all to access and use, but with reasonable limitations.
To make use of the features available on this website, that is to do anything other than read the information on the pages, you will be required to verify yourself via email.
We are still fine-tuning parts and adding final touches to the system. Specifically, the help system is being developed – as we see how people use the website. We have prepared a simple introduction page that describes the most important features for now. You can find it here.
Currency – called Travel-Coins
Many areas and actions are built on a simple internal currency system. As we test drive its integration during the beta phase we are not limiting or charging for anything. You should always have enough travel-coins to explore and test the various features.
Future Account Options
At the end of the beta phase, users will be automatically moved to the free membership tier. You will have the option to upgrade to other tiers whenever you choose.
We will post details about the pricing of the different tiers in good time.
What you see below are the roughly sketched out features of those account options. We will always openly communicate what each tier will include.
BETA
MembershipAs we have only just launched the new website, all users will have a Beta level membership, while we test the functionality of the website.Â
FREE
MembershipYou will have access to all features of the website, but this will be limited in some areas. All members on the free tier get a certain number of coins to perform certain tasks, such as creating and sharing a list. Travel coins will be renewed on a regular basis (for example, weekly or monthly). Your account will be limited to one active itinerary.
Second Tier
MembershipAs with the free tier membership, you will have access to all features of the website and the community forum, but with clearly defined restrictions. Second tier members will have more travel coins than free membership accounts. So you will be able to perform more tasks before they renew. In addition, your account will be limited to three active itineraries
Third Tier
MembershipFull, unlimited access to all features of the website, including being able to post questions and comment in the community forum. Within reason, there will be no restriction on the number of active itineraries.
