Work With Archaeology Travel
We work with a range of stakeholders in the heritage and tourism industry to promote places of interest, museums and destinations, tours and activities, travel services and products. These range from national and local tourist boards to DMOs and PR companies. From tour companies to independent travel guides. From accommodation providers to guidebook publishers.
Our experience and expertise lies in raising awareness about tangible and non-tangible heritage to our international audience.
In 2015 Thomas Dowson was invited to Bulgaria to consult on the privately owned Historical Park, a history theme park now open near Varna. As part of the consultation process Thomas spent just over a week visiting some of the main archaeological and historical sites in Bulgaria. Besides using this trip to evaluate the Historical Park project, we also used this material to promote Bulgaria as a destination for people who are interested in European history and archaeology. The campaign we devised to promote the archaeology of Bulgaria was recognised by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 2017: Archaeology Travel was awarded the prize for the best publication in online media for 2016.
Since then various members of the Archaeology Travel team have worked with DMOs and private companies in England, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain on a variety of promotional campaigns. These range from small campaigns to promote a specific aspect of a destination to larger campaigns that aim to raise awareness about the possibilities offered by a destination, be it a city, region or a country.Â
Why Work With Archaeology Travel
Travel trend reports year after year consistently show that visiting cultural and historical sites is the primary reason people cite for travelling. Significantly, while travellers are still drawn to iconic sites, increasingly it is lessor known destinations with immersive experiences that benefit local communities that are being sought. A 2023 travel survey revealed that 50% of respondents preferred having control over planning their own travels.
Our website meets these needs. In our articles and guides, we actively seek to raise awareness of lessor known destinations, as well as ways to explore popular destinations more deeply, more sustainably. With our forum we are fostering a digital environment where committed conscious travellers can communicate and share information with others.Â
In 2023 we had a reach of over 450,000 travellers from 179 countries. Despite significant developments with AI in search results during 2024 where travel websites are seeing dramatic decreases in organic traffic, our organic traffic is increasing. Albeit modestly – an average of 5% month on month.
Our work promoting the world’s tangible and intangible heritage has been recognised with awards from both scientific bodies as well as our partners in the travel industry.
