Work With Archaeology Travel
The principal function of Archaeology Travel is to enable users and members to create hyper individualised itineraries with a focus on heritage and culture, while encouraging sustainable and more meaningful engagements with a destination.
We work with a range of organisations, from national and local tourist boards to other Destination Management Organisations seeking to raise the profile of the area they represent. This ranges from raising awareness about heritage related sites and activities to promoting tourism to an area.
In 2015 Thomas Dowson was invited to Bulgaria to consult on the privately owned Historical Park, a history theme park now open near Varna. As part of the consultation process Thomas spent just over a week visiting some of the main archaeological and historical sites in Bulgaria. Besides using this trip to evaluate the Historical Park project, we also used this material to promote Bulgaria as a destination for people who are interested in European history and archaeology. The campaign we devised to promote the archaeology of Bulgaria was recognised by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 2017: Archaeology Travel was awarded the prize for the best publication in online media for 2016.

Since then various members of the Archaeology Travel team have worked with DMOs and private companies in England, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain on a variety of promotional campaigns. These range from small campaigns to promote a specific aspect of a destination to larger campaigns that aim to raise awareness about the possibilities offered by a destination, be it a city, region or a country.Â
In 2022 Thomas Dowson was invited to Sardinia by a consortium of organisations headed by the Mont’e Prama Foundation to raise the profile of archaeology in Sardinia as a tourist attraction. Sardinia has a long and fascinating past, with an archaeological heritage that is unlike anything else in the Mediterranean. Following a number of trips to the island, and the addition of a Sardinian archaeologist to our team of researchers, in 2023 Sardinia is the featured destination on Archaeology Travel. During the course of the year we will be adding numerous articles about visiting Sardinia, where to go, and what there is to see and do on the island. More significantly, we are in the process of producing the most definitive guide to archaeology and history sites and museums and other heritage related attractions, experiences and services. This directory will be used by our users to create their own personalised itineraries.Â
If you represent a tourist board or a DMO and are looking to promote or raise awareness about your destination, we would love to hear from you. Start by contacting us with initial details. We can then take it from there as appropriate.Â
